Submission Guidelines
Who May Submit Articles
The Journal accepts submissions from professionals and other stakeholders involved in pesticide applicator certification and training including, but not limited to, pesticide safety educators, pesticide regulatory officials, and members of the regulated community. While the Journal is the official publication of the American Association of Pesticide Safety Educators (AAPSE), non-members are welcome to submit manuscripts.
Meeting the Scope of the Journal
Manuscripts accepted for publication must address matters that directly bear on the topics of pesticide safety education and applicator licensure. The Journal publishes articles across four general categories including Program Description, Research Study, Templates and Tools, and Commentary. Submission guidelines for each category follow.
Program Description:
- Robust descriptions of pesticide applicator training or assessment; program implementations, efficacies, or modifications
- Suggested maximum length: 15-20 pages of double-spaced text (12-point type) plus tables and figures
- Abstract suggested maximum: 100 words
- Double blind peer review. Neither the authors nor the reviewers know each other’s identities (3 reviewers)
Research Study:
- Formal reports of findings and implications arising from quantitative and qualitative studies
- Suggested maximum length: 15-20 pages of double-spaced text (12-point type) plus tables and figures
- Abstract suggested maximum: 100 words
- Double blind peer review. Neither the authors nor the reviewers know each other’s identities (3 reviewers)
Templates and Tools:
- Detailed accounts of unique or innovative methods, program formats, technologies, services or devices that improve training and evaluation
- Suggested maximum length: 10-12 pages of double-spaced text (12-point type) plus tables and figures
- Abstract suggested maximum: 100 words
- Single blind peer review. The reviewers know the author, but the author does not know the identities of the reviewers (1-2 reviewers)
Commentary:
- Scholarly narratives including literature reviews, article critiques or responses, literary notes, and opinions on current issues of interest
- Suggested maximum length: 10-12 pages of double-spaced text (12-point type) plus tables and figures
- Abstract suggested maximum: 100 words
- Open (or collaborative) peer review. The identities of the author and the reviewers are fully disclosed to one another (1-2 reviewers)

The Journal accepts articles continuously throughout the year. Authors may submit manuscripts by e-mail to: martinag@purdue.edu.
Publication Policies
Publication
The Journal is published solely in electronic format online. The Journal publishes articles continuously throughout the year. Accepted submissions are published upon completion of the editorial process. Articles are organized into volumes corresponding to the year of acceptance and completion. Authors are welcome to contact the lead editor throughout the editorial process to inquire about the status of a manuscript.
Formatting and Layout Standards
The Journal’s editorial board considers only manuscripts in Microsoft Word ™ (*.doc) formatting. And graphics and images submitted with the article should be sent as separate JPEG (.jpg) or TIFF (.tif) files. Authors are also expected to follow the American Psychological Association’s (APA’s) manual of style. For more information on APA Style go to the APA Style website.

Articles accepted for publication in the Journal must be original works and free of copyright conflicts. The copyrights for completed articles are held by the Journal. Once accepted, they cannot be published in form or content elsewhere without the express written permission of the Journal’s lead editor.
